Disillusioned by the run-in-place corporate lifestyle, David finds himself unemployed and desperate to move the world under his feet.
Bradley, his older, more adventurous, and slightly reckless college fraternity brother, makes an enticing proposal: thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650-mile Mexico-to-Canada footpath—barefoot.
Just a few weeks later, the two inexperienced hopefuls abandon society to soul-search in nature’s indifferent embrace. They face the trail’s formidable challenges—with rising tensions and the risk of falling behind to the coming winter as their guides.
The Trail Provides is an inspiring thru-hiking memoir—a winding and insightful journey of companionship, lessons learned, dreams and reality, and leaving everything behind for transformation.
Now, let’s start the journey.

First off, I love the outdoors but I have never
dreamed of taking on such a daunting and arduous
expedition. This book illustrates a man’s incredible
physical sojourn but his mental path as well. David
finds a way to seamlessly tie the experiences of the
trail (good and bad) to something he can reflect on
in his emotional and mental journey. He takes you
onto the trail and into his psyche- making you feel,
laugh, fear, cheer, and even hold your breath. I
haven’t explored any of the PCT but I feel like I saw it
all and grappled with Mother Nature. This is a
beautiful story about a man and a trail but you leave
learning about yourself.
David’s writing is inviting and relatable. It’s hard to
put this book down. Whether you’re a recreational
hiker, adventure seeker, or homebody, everyone
should read this book. You will be inspired. You leave
with much more than a story.

I throughly enjoyed reading The Trail Provides. I personally find a lot of peace and healing in nature and I was intrigued by what possibilities could arise each day on David’s journey on the PCT. The good, bad, and the life lessons along the way made me not want to put the book down. The book provided me with moments of reflection with what I would do if I were in those shoes. I highly recommend The Trail Provides to all.

I stayed up way past my bedtime reading David’s amazing and thought-provoking chronicle of his time on the PCT. Just a wonderful piece of writing, and a fun read!
