I recently attended a book fair in Dallas.
I didn’t sell many books,
but I met many souls.

I stood in front of the souls
and shared my own:

I turned thirty-three this month.
Forty isn’t sounding as old as it once did.
Now, I think eighty’s old.
I had an old friend reach out to me lately.
These kinds of messages make my day/life.
Here’s what he said:

Not many have listened to this book,
but I poured my heart into it,
so it means a lot that he took the time.
I’m still writing a fiction novel.
I’m 33k words in with an 80k goal.
Everything could change,
so no promises yet,
but imagine this book as if
Cuelo’s The Alchemist,
Haruki Murakami novels,
Miyazaki films,
Hesse’s Narcissus & Goldmund,
and stories about following your dreams
had a baby.
It’s all my favorite things
combined into one.
Hopefully, I’ll share more later this year.
Evidence of progress:

I’ve been reading a book lately,
Spittle’s Camino Sunrise,
the story of a man in his 60’s
hiking “the” El Camino.
I resonate with the idea
that our past haunts us
and the only way to move forward
is to confront our fears in the present.

I’ve been moving my body
in subtle and dynamic ways
and posting my practice on YouTube.
You can see my latest video here:

Thanks for following along.
I plan to share more about these tools for self-understanding:
writing, reading, movement, and stillness.
Stay tuned, inwardly.
I’m experimenting with this new email style, too.
Let me know your thoughts.
Love,
David
