Camino Sunrise is a fun and delightful story of a man and his wife trekking in pursuit of adventure and contentment. I felt drawn to Reg’s story due to his desire to heal from the past. Many moments haunt Reg before departing onto the trail, and his willingness to bear all is inspiring. From locker room bullying moments to his relationship with his father and even the judgments of others related to his “beanpole” figure, Reg commits to facing his shadows at every step of the Camino. He stays honest and vulnerable throughout and the transformation is palpable.

These elements stood out to me: Reg’s insights and descriptions about the trail, the fellow pilgrims he met along the way, and his inward examination. His leap into the unknown shook his former self, allowing him to rebuild into something no one can take away from him. It was clear that not only did the trail change Reg, but so too did the writing of this book. Such is the power of story and self-observation.

I’m also amazed and inspired by Reg and Sue’s courage to continue adventuring into old age, keeping their hearts, minds, and souls youthful for all to read.
