If we don’t pay attention,
we can allow our practice to become mechanical,
to fall dead and dying.
Whether it be in our meditation, movement, writing,
or even our relationships,
the same patterns repeat,
things get stuck in the groves
of how they’ve always gone,
and the quality of aliveness fades.
We can lose our luster
for that which we already believe to know.
This is mostly because our attention
no longer carries curiosity.
If you see nothing new,
if you never look for something different,
Then the practice has grown stale
and insight will be hard to come by.
But if you look for newness,
often by taking a few steps backward,
you’ll find new life in what was once old.
Here, the practice moves from mechanistic
to humanistic,
to once again feeling
alive and vibrant.
Don’t be afraid to start over again from the beginning.
What is one thing you can pay closer attention to?
What needs new life breathed into it
by your conscious awareness?
Once you decide on the container or the content
in need of love,
You’ll find yourself discovering
all kinds of new opportunities
and paths for exploration.
Often, this thing will call out to us loudly,
Open your awareness and listen to what arises.
There’s always something awaiting your discovery.
A Personal Story…
I used to think I knew everything I needed to know about advertising on Amazon. I worked in digital marketing back in the day and I’ve used the Amazon ads platform to promote my books for years. But just recently, it hit me that I needed to take a step back and look again. The moment I started to open up my attention, the more I saw failures, opportunities, discoveries, and not just on the Amazon ads platform, but across all platforms. Who knows where this leads, but it sure does bring new excitement into the journey. I hope you can find excitement in something old, too.
Thanks and wishing you the best today.
Love,
David
