When we block boredom,
We block creativity.
Learning to allow for boredom
to enter our experience,
allows for creativity to flow.
In that moment of boredom,
The mind will want to escape,
To distract itself from this feeling,
And will default to what is easy,
the path of least resistance.
If we allow the feeling to be as it is,
To face and observe boredom,
we gain awareness of its reality.
Boredom is an intelligent signal
of body and mind
It is trying to help us
look for something deeper.
So, allow it to arrive,
invite this pattern into your body
and welcome its presence.
When we experience boredom fully,
we gain access
to an infinite spring of creativity.
Self-Inquiry:
- Where does boredom show up for you?
- What keeps you from experiencing boredom?
While I’ve experienced this insight before, I can’t take full credit for today’s delivery. This one was offered to me during this past weekend’s movement immersion held here in Dallas, TX.
So often, our insights are simply reminders. Something that makes us say, “Oh yeah, I know that.” What’s here is nothing new, but there are always more layers to explore on second look. The moment we think we know all is the same moment when curiosity and creativity dies.
I often find myself blocking boredom, either through using my phone or defaulting to non-urgent and unimportant tasks like chores. My avoidance of boredom grows especially clear when my experience calls out for me to face a path of greater resistance. It’s so easy to succumb to what’s easy instead, to delay our process, to fall off the wagon, to push into the future what we know can only be experienced in a present moment. Something needs to change for something to change. When will that time be for you?
Love,
David
